| TIGHTNESS Large Volumes of low pressure constantly flowing air are required in wastewater treatment plants. Most wastewater systems require an actively ventilated system with a fan or a blower inducing air movement over the process area, conveying the air to a treatment unit for processing. This process requires constant, low pressure negative air pressure. As a result, the source and method of air replacement should be of utmost concern. Typically air is replaced through controlled ventilation points and vacuum relief openings. An effective active ventilation system must take into account the negative air pressure requirements of the emission source as well as the desired V.O.C. concentration within the system. Insufficient negative pressure may allow fugitive emissions and cause improper air exchanges that may lead to fire and explosion hazards, along with severe corrosion problems. Systems with gaps and cracks prevent the proper control of air flow and velocity which is essential for a successful unit. Air volume in wastewater treatment applications can be reduced
in the following ways.
The attached illustration demonstrates the workings of a flat cover system. The tightness of the system affects equipment size and that in turn reduces operational costs. |
